Quick Summer Sweets

June 3, 2010

One of my favorite parts about summer is the food!
With BBQs, graduation, and Fourth of July around the corner… you’ll be the hit of the party if you bring these sweets:

Pretzel Turtles (for 20) Prep Time:10 Min; Cook Time:4

Ingredients: 20 small mini pretzels, 20 chocolate covered caramel candies, 20 pecan halves

Preheat oven to 300 F. Arrange pretzels on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Place a chocolate candy on each pretzel. Bake for 4 minutes. After you remove the cookie sheet, place a pecan on each pretzel while they’re warm. Let cool before storing.

Ice Pops

Ingredients: Orange Juice, Fruit Punch, or Grape Juice; a ice tray or ice pop mold; popsicle sticks

These are the simplest to make. You can pour the juice into an ice tray, place popsicle sticks in each cube, then freeze.

4th of July Jello

Ingredients: strawberry jello mix (prepare it in a bowl), blue raspberry jello mix (prepare it in a seperate bowl), whipped cream, small cups

I made these for a pool party last summer, and they were gone in a matter of seconds. Make sure you store them in a fridge, and don’t leave the tray of cups in the heat.

Pour the strawberry jello mix into the small cups to fill them up 1/3 the way. You’ll need to put them in the fridge. Once they’ve chilled and are firm, you can pour the next layer of blue raspberry into the small cups. Place them in the fridge once again until they’re firm. Right before you leave for the party… you can spray the whipped cream onto each cup.

This will create a layered, red, white, and blue effect.

Chocolate Covered Marshmallows(for 10)
Prep Time:10 Min;Cook Time:5 min

Ingredients: 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips, 10 large marshmallows, pan with waxed paper

Melt the chocolate in a microwave safe bowl. Dip the marshmallows in chocolate using a toothpick. Dip in chocolate sprinkles for an extra kick. Place on a pan lined with waxed paper and put them in the fridge until they’re firm and frozen. Let the marshmallows sit 5 minutes before serving.

Chocolate Pretzel Rods

Melt chocolate in a microwave safe bowl. Dip 1/2 of a pretzel rod into the chocolate. Place on pan lined with wax paper. Make sure the chocolate has hardened before serving.

Check out http://allrecipes.com/ for more recipes. You can even choose the amount of people you want to serve, and it’ll automatically adjust the recipe.

The Perfect Party

February 18, 2010

Everyone dreams about the perfect party. But the perfect party doesn’t have to include a DJ, yummy snack foods, and hundred people dancing to music. Here are some ideas that would be great for a birthday party that aren’t expensive and really fun to do:

~*Harry Potter Party*~
-invitations: model it after the letter to Hogwarts that Harry got.
-clothes: pajamas, any HP clothes owned
-what you’d do: have a HP marathon with ALL SIX movies!

~*The girliest, cheesiest sleepover EVER!*~
-invitiations: on pink paper, in swirly handwriting.
-clothes: anything pink or purple!
-what you’d do: mani-pedi’s, pillow fights, facials, anything as girlie as possible. It sounds weird, but its so much fun!

~*Disney Themed!*~
-invitations: add disney princess to the invites!
-clothes: dress up like your favorite princess (i know, sounds geeky. but its a chance to act like a little kid again…so much fun!)
-what you’d do: marathon of disney princess movies….you’ll have quite a few laughs(:

~*The MLIA sleepover*~
-invitations: modeled after the MLIA website…in MLIA format.
-clothes: whatever you want
-What you’d do: water-gun fights and read MLIA stories. You’ll also have tons of laughs with this.

I hope these idea’s are helpful when planning your next sleepover party.  I just recently did the Girliest Sleepover and Harry Potter sleepover and it was so much fun!

How to Give Great Gifts on a Budget: DIY Ideas

December 17, 2009

Our team sat down to share tips for how teens can give great DIY gifts on a budget.  You can read some of the tips below and watch their video

  • Make a Blanket or Scarf using Fleece Material.  You can sew two pieces of fleece together, or tie knots around the ends for a different effect.
  • Get Creative with Pictures!  Create a digital collage or print out a few of your favorite pics and frame them or put them into a memory book.  Online sites like Shutterfly have fun ideas for photos too!
  • DIY Coupons.  Think about how you can help out the person you are giving a gift too…do they need a good car wash?  What about babysitting? Or, would they love for you to clean the house?  Put together your own gift certificates.
  • Make Your Own Dessert!  Make cookies, brownies, breads, or other favorite holiday treats and wrap them up in fun paper!
  • Create a Movie Basket.  Maybe you have a movie you don’t watch and it’s in great condition?  Pair it with some microwave popcorn and a little candy and you’re gift will be a big hit!
  • Make a Gratitude Journal.  Get a journal and start a page, I’m grateful for you because…Then they can continue to use for gratitude or other insights.
  • Do you have other DIY ideas?  We’d love to hear them!  You can always email us at info@girlswithdreams.com or post on our YouTube Channel!

Stevie Recommends: Boo’s in a bottle

October 28, 2009

1. Take a dum dum lollipop and cover it with a tissue.

2. Tie it with a string where the stick meets the lollipop.

3. Put a face on the tissue.

4. Then you have a ghost.

You can add other decorations to it, but it’s so simple for Halloween and kids will love them.  You can even make it a gift or decoration and put it in a bottle, then you have boo’s in a bottle!

Pandora Radio

October 16, 2009

I know not all of us have itunes or can afford to have every song you want on itunes. Going to youtube and searching every song you want to hear can get boring. Every heard of Pandora?

Go to www.pandora.com or click here. All you have to do is type in a song you like and it will play songs that are like that song. It’s free, all you have to do is sign up and they don’t send you junk emails. You can even have different stations so if one day you want country then the next you want hip hop, that’s fine! It even keep track of the stations you have listened to and saves them for the next time you log in.
