About Us

A message from our founder, Carrie Silver-Stock:

I didn’t just want to start a Web site or a blog. I wanted to start a movement, a revolution, and a change in the world. A place where girls can be girls and empower one another to reach their dreams!

When I was a teenager, I looked like I had it all together. Underneath the surface, however, I was struggling with depression, an eating disorder, friends, boys, and a lot of the same stuff many girls continue to face today. After college, I continued to work with young people and began noticing patterns that never seemed to go away. I also noticed that it seems even more difficult to be a girl today! Then I started asking these questions: Why are are bright and beautiful girls putting themselves down? Why do so many girls lack confidence? Why are girls making choices they regret, and then keeping it to themselves? Why are so many girls obsessed with this “bad girl” culture? Why are so many girls bullying each other and pulling other girls down instead of building each other up?

Girls With Dreams, www.girlswithdreams.com, and The Secrets Girls Keep: What Girls Hide (& Why) and How to Break the Stress of Silence were created as responses to these questions. So, I’m glad you made it here because you have so much to share! More importantly, you get to write your own rules here. You can be completely yourself. You don’t have to worry about insults here because we don’t do that. Here, you can practice being confident and thinking for yourself. There is no secret too terrible, and we’ve always got your back!
