Do You Like Your Body?
February 23, 2009
February 22-28 is National Eating Disorder Awareness week.
Look at yourself and appreciate the life you’ve been given. There is beauty in everyone, and I hope you see that health is a gift. If you can make the oath to yourself to be healthy, then you will influence yourself and others around you for life.
The most important thing you can do this week is compliment your friends. Set a goal for yourself and see if you can give three compliments a day. Love yourself and your body!
Everyone Deals with Tough Stuff.

I had a little aha moment yesterday. Maybe it was more of a ‘duh’ moment. It reminded me again of all the reasons I started a Web site and wrote a book for teen girls. I was talking to some teens yesterday and they were sharing experiences they had growing up and in high school. Read more

About Us
March 4, 2008
A message from our founder, Carrie Silver-Stock:
I didn’t just want to start a Web site or a blog. I wanted to start a movement, a revolution, and a change in the world. A place where girls can be girls and empower one another to reach their dreams!
When I was a teenager, I looked like I had it all together. Underneath the surface, however, I was struggling with depression, an eating disorder, friends, boys, and a lot of the same stuff many girls continue to face today. After college, I continued to work with young people and began noticing patterns that never seemed to go away. I also noticed that it seems even more difficult to be a girl today! Then I started asking these questions: Why are are bright and beautiful girls putting themselves down? Why do so many girls lack confidence? Why are girls making choices they regret, and then keeping it to themselves? Why are so many girls obsessed with this “bad girl” culture? Why are so many girls bullying each other and pulling other girls down instead of building each other up?
Girls With Dreams, www.girlswithdreams.com, and The Secrets Girls Keep: What Girls Hide (& Why) and How to Break the Stress of Silence were created as responses to these questions. So, I’m glad you made it here because you have so much to share! More importantly, you get to write your own rules here. You can be completely yourself. You don’t have to worry about insults here because we don’t do that. Here, you can practice being confident and thinking for yourself. There is no secret too terrible, and we’ve always got your back! Our mission is simple: girls empower each other to make a positive impact in the world. Read more at www.girlswithdreams.com/category/dreams.
I hope you’ll jump right in and tell us about yourself! Tell us what you’d like to see on our site. If you like what we’re doing, consider joining our team as a blogger, artist, or model. We can’t wait to hear from you!
Check out www.youtube.com/girlswithdreams to hear more from our team!
Girls With Dreams is a proud member and Confidence Builder of the Confidence Coalition. The Confidence Coalition mobilizes the many organizations, companies and individuals that promote self-esteem and confidence among girls and women.
Why Parents Will Love the Body Scoop for Girls by Dr. Ashton
March 10, 2010
Every parent struggles to find the right words to talk about health, safety, sex, and body image with her daughter. I love Dr. Jennifer Ashton’s new book, The Body Scoop for Girls. Creating an atmosphere of trusted talk with our daughters is key, but so is giving them the right information they need to make good choices. Girls feel empowered when they can balance quality information about their bodies with talking with their parents or a trusted adult.
The Body Scoop for Girls is one of those must read book for parents and their daughters. Dr. Jennifer Ashton shares straight talk advice on important health topics for girls from puberty, periods, hormones, sex, body weight, mood disorders, and smoking, drinking, and drugs.
The Body Scoop for Girls is written in a voice that girls will relate to and appreciate. At the same time, parents will find it important to use as a basis for having conversations with their daughters. Parents might want to use some of the same examples Dr. Ashton uses or even get ideas for how to talk about tough subjects from Dr. Ashton.
Giving our daugthers information about their bodies is extremely important to them making safe, healthy choices for themselves. Every parent and daugther will thank Dr. Ashton for sharing the straight talk in The Body Scoop on some topics that aren’t always easy to talk about.
If you’d like to read a teen review of the Body Scoop, you can see what Stevie, one of our teen advisors liked. Make sure to get your copy own copy of The Body Scoop for Girls today!
